It was a big day with the bat for Brandon Yarbrough of the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Durham 14-7.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 5 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Yarbrough had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Indians had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
B. Yarbrough hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off M. Buehrle in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off B. Lyon in the 8th.
For the season, Yarbrough is hitting at a .331 clip with 5 home runs, 66 RBIs and has scored 42 runs. He has 123 hits, 13 walks and a .352 on-base percentage.

When it came to hitting the baseball, Brad Eldred had few International League peers in May. The first baseman for Indianapolis mauled opposing pitchers for a .275 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.
He finished up with some strong stats: 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 17 runs scored, 22 walks and a .397 on-base percentage.
So far this year Eldred has hit .285 with 17 home runs, 50 RBIs and scored 38 runs.

Over the past week, Brad Eldred has feasted on International League pitching. Today the Indianapolis Indians first baseman gobbled up the league's latest Player of the Week Award.
Eldred swung the bat with purpose all week as he collected a .344 average, 11 hits in 32 at-bats, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Eldred is hitting .309 this year with 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 178 at-bats, 23 walks and a .388 on-base percentage. Eldred has played in 45 games.
