Thursday, March 11th, 2010: Washington's Ayala Injured
Dealing with injuries is part of the game, and now Luis Ayala of the Nationals knows this firsthand. He was injured against the Arizona Diamondbacks while running the bases. Diagnosed as a strained calf muscle, the Washington reliever is expected to miss one week. Ayala was a little upset, but understands it comes with the territory. "There is nothing I can do now. You try to be careful, but no matter how careful you are, injuries happen."

Friday, February 12th, 2010: Ayala Signs 3-Year Extension
Luis Ayala and Washington officials have reached an agreement keeping the 32-year-old reliever around another 3 years.

Though terms were not confirmed, insiders tell SION that Ayala re-signed for $2,976,666 per year.

Ayala has registered up a career 22-and-12 record with 5 saves and a 3.67 ERA.

There's an excitement around Washington today because it appears the team has finally reached an agreement with a key free agent acquisition. An afternoon press conference has been called where the Nationals are likely to announce the signing of starting pitcher Noburu Katsu to a 3-year, $22,440,000 contract.
