Monday, November 28th, 2011: Star 1B Signs Pact with Pirates
Pittsburgh fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Andy Marte won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 3-year extension at a pay rate of $4,660,000 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Pittsburgh officials had to keep Marte from jumping ship.

In his career Marte is batting .252 with a total of 94 home runs.
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011: Red Sox KO's Pirates
"Anticipatin' celebratin'" was the Boston clubhouse slogan for the World Series this year -- and celebrate they did, when they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 in the series.

The Red Sox won the deciding game today 7-0 at Fenway Park for their 9th Major League Baseball crown.

During the 2011 regular season, they registered a 95-67 mark and finished first in the American League Eastern Division race.
Thursday, September 22nd, 2011: Pirates Lose Marte for 2 Weeks
The Pittsburgh Pirates will have to make do without Andy Marte for 2 weeks. He suffered a torn hip muscle while running the bases in the game today against the Houston Astros. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the first baseman. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back." Marte will miss 2 weeks.

In 2011 Marte is batting .254 with 24 home runs.
