| Breaking News | | Tuesday, June 14th, 2011: Whelan at His Best, Blanks Atlanta On the hill Kevin Whelan stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Atlanta 4-0.
At bat the Braves floundered, fizzled and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Atlanta manager said. "He kept us off balance."
The Texas pitcher hurled a 4-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 1 walk and numbered 12 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Whelan said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
To date this season, Whelan has a record of 2 wins and 4 losses and a 6.62 ERA. He has appeared in 18 games and struck out 51 in 51.2 innings. | | Sunday, June 12th, 2011: Atlanta's Capuano Demanding Trade? It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Atlanta's Chris Capuano has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the starting pitcher may not be happy with the club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment. | | Tuesday, May 17th, 2011: Chavez Hurt, Listed Day-to-Day Is Luis Manuel Chavez going to tough it out and play through an injury? We'll get the chance to find out in the next 2 weeks as the outstanding Atlanta reliever attempts to shrug off a strained back muscle he sustained throwing a pitch against the San Diego Padres. Whether the management lets him play or handles him with kid gloves will depend mostly on how Chavez feels on a day-to-day basis. But there's little doubt that the Atlanta Braves will be happy for the talented player to return at full strength as soon as possible.
For the season Chavez is 2-and-1 with no saves and a 2.63 ERA. He has given up 20 hits in 24 innings with 19 strikeouts. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 33-40, .452 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 8.0 GB | | Record at home | 20-14, .588 PCT | | Record on the road | 13-26, .333 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-6, .600 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 6-10, .375 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 27-30, .474 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 13-11, .542 PCT | | Record in May | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in June | 9-13, .409 PCT |
