| Breaking News | | Monday, August 16th, 2010: Lacy of GCL (WSH) Player of the Week Not every ball that came off Chuck Lacy's bat last week was a line drive or a towering shot -- it just seemed that way to the teams that played the GCL (WSH) Nationals. For his exploits, Lacy was named this week's Gulf Coast League Player of the Week award.
The GCL (WSH) catcher put up 12 hits in 23 at-bats and no home runs while hitting .522 with 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
Thus far this year Lacy is batting .265 with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored. | | Wednesday, August 11th, 2010: Yankees Triumph, Whitewash GCL (WSH) Tad Hammond bent a little, but he didn't break against the Nationals. The GCL (NYY) pitcher hurled a 3-hit 5-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 1 walk and putting up 4 strikeouts.
"Tad is good at getting out of jams," his manager told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
Checking out his stats for the season, Hammond has notched 3 wins and 3 losses in 10 starts, 4.68 ERA and struck out 50 batters in 59.2 innings. | | Wednesday, July 28th, 2010: Cartwright Goes 5-5 Sammy Cartwright told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Cartwright of the GCL (TOR) Blue Jays did against the GCL (WSH) Nationals. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Nationals, who suffered a 10-2 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
S. Cartwright singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off R. Álvarez in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off D. Steward in the 8th.
So far this season Cartwright is batting .364 with 11 home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 3-1, .750 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 1-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record on the road | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-1, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 1-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 2-1, .667 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-1, .750 PCT | | Record in June | 3-1, .750 PCT |
