| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 15th, 2011: Bears Top AquaSox
Yakima did well in regular season play, but they did even better in the postseason -- they won the whole shebang -- finishing off the Everett AquaSox in the NWL Championship 3-2 to claim the crown for the 1st time.
In the elimination game today at Yakima County Stadium, the Bears polished off Everett 9-1 to win the Northwest League championship.
In the East Division pennant race, the Yakima compiled a 51-25 record and came in first.

Everything clicked on the hill today for Héctor Gutiérrez of the Yakima Bears as he hurled his club to a 10-0 shutout win over the Spokane Indians, limiting them to 6 hits while recording 11 strikeouts and yielding 1 walk. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches.
"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," the Indians manager said, "but we weren't able to get to him."
In 7 starts this season Gutiérrez has registered a 5-1 record and a 3.43 ERA.

All week long Manny Hernández was the talk of the Northwest League...his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the Northwest League's Player of the Week for his exceptional performance.
Hernández put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .417 average (10-24) and contributing 2 home runs and 8 RBIs to claim the honor.
During the 2011 season Hernández has hit .403 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. He has played in 55 games and scored 51 times.
