| Breaking News | | Friday, September 10th, 2010: Vermont Humbles State College "He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the State College manager after watching Raúl Álvarez of the Vermont Lake Monsters humiliate his club 7-0 in a fine 4-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Álvarez said after he befuddled the Spikes. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 11 and walked 0 in the complete game effort.
This year Álvarez has posted a 2-2 mark in 5 starts and has a 2.61 ERA. | | Wednesday, August 4th, 2010: Lewis Zeroes in on Oneonta The Vermont manager told reporters after the game, "When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy. The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
He was talking about Doug Lewis, who had just hurled a fine 5-hit shutout over the Oneonta Tigers. He had 6 strikeouts and no walks in the Vermont 3-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," the Oneonta manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
Year-to-date Lewis shows a 4-4 record, 9 starts, 58.2 innings, 43 strikeouts and a 5.22 ERA. | | Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010: Stotts Spins Shutout Against Mahoning Valley "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Lake Monsters manager told reporters after today's game.
The Scrappers ran into a buzzsaw as Curt Stotts cut them down to size 2-0 with a 5-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Vermont hurler doled out 1 walk and registered 3 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Curt goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Stotts also got some praise from the Mahoning Valley manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
In 2010 thus far, Stotts has tossed 52.2 innings in 9 starts, fanned 42 batters, walked 9 and put up a 5.30 ERA with 2 wins and 4 losses. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Dusty Lincoln | strained back muscle | one week | Not on DL | | SS Raúl Martínez | strained back muscle | 2 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 1.0 GB | | Record at home | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record on the road | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 1-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record in June | 2-2, .500 PCT |
