| Breaking News | | Tuesday, May 31st, 2011: Harker Fires Shutout in Lakewood Victory The Hagerstown Suns struggled at the plate today against Blue Claws hurler Brett Harker, who shackled them on 2 hits while hurling a complete game 4-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Suns skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Harker finished the game with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Brett made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
This season to date, Harker has fashioned a 8-1 mark and 3.35 ERA in 83.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .231 against him and he has logged 65 strikeouts. | | Monday, May 2nd, 2011: Great Stroke! Hash Gets 5 Hits! It was a great day for him at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, but not a good day for his team. Rylee Hash of the Intimidators was unstoppable in today's 6-4 loss to the Hagerstown Suns.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," the Kannapolis second baseman said after the game. "All I had to do was swing, and I connected. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will. Losing the game is disappointing, but my hits at least gave us a chance."
R. Hash singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.
This season Hash has delivered 34 hits in 87 at-bats for a .391 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .448 clip and his totals also include 10 RBIs and 19 runs scored. This year Hash has played in 21 games. | | Sunday, May 1st, 2011: April's Best Hurler in SALLY is Stotts Hagerstown Suns hurler Curt Stotts was rewarded today with the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month honors. Stotts, 25, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck.
"I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Hagerstown starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place."
Things did fall into place for Stotts. In April he took the ball for 42.2 innings while notching 41 strikeouts, a 1.69 ERA and a 5-0 record.
