| Breaking News | | Saturday, May 28th, 2011: Potomac Dazed, Hudspeth Gets No-Hitter Casey Hudspeth was unhittable today as he blanked the Nationals 2-0. The Salem pitcher breezed through the Potomac lineup and got himself a no-hitter. Hudspeth had them talking to themselves as he struck out 11 and issued 3 walks in an outstanding performance at Salem Memorial Stadium.
His catcher said to reporters after the game, "He started off slow. He didn't have command of anything in the first three innings, but lucked his way through them. The Nationals really helped him out by not being patient...they hit a lot of first pitches. Then it all came together in the fourth. From there on, the Nationals never had a chance. He dominated them."
| | Friday, May 6th, 2011: Hit Parade, Bannatyne Gets Cycle "How sweet it is, when the good part of the bat makes contact with the baseball." That's how Chavo Bannatyne, the Winston-Salem first baseman, described what happened in today's 3-2 victory over the Potomac Nationals -- hitting for the cycle.
In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle", something that almost never occurs.
"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Potomac pitching for 4 hits in 4 at-bats and his name will now go into the record book. Bannatyne also racked up 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored in the game.
C. Bannatyne tripled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Lannan in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and doubled in the 8th.
This season Bannatyne is hitting .370 with 3 home runs. | | Friday, April 15th, 2011: Sánchez Socks It to Nationals, Cracks 6 Hits Juan Carlos Sánchez really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Coastal Federal Field, the Myrtle Beach shortstop blistered the Potomac Nationals for 6 hits in 6 at-bats to pace his club to a 8-7 victory.
"Sánchez was too tough to get out today," the Nationals skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
J. Sánchez doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, doubled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off D. Pfau in the 11th.
Posting a .412 batting average to date, Sánchez has 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Cory Van Allen | torn bicep muscle | 3 months | Not on DL | | P Brad Cox | back spasms | 1-2 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 30-44, .405 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 15.0 GB | | Record at home | 16-18, .471 PCT | | Record on the road | 14-26, .350 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-18, .419 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 10-9, .526 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 20-35, .364 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 6-16, .273 PCT | | Record in May | 12-18, .400 PCT | | Record in June | 12-10, .545 PCT |
