Major League Baseball News Article | | | Wednesday, September 16th, 2009: Brown Cracks 5 Hits 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game and you get your moment of glory...your 5 minutes of fame...you get your name in the record book.
In the Nationals 9-3 win over New York (N), Jeremiah Brown was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at Nationals Park.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this was a special once-in-a-lifetime chance for the record book. On the last hit, I was ready to swing at anything close, I was that excited. That's why my third base coach called time and told me, 'Calm down and wait for a good pitch.' That got me back on track and I nailed the first one in the strike zone."
On his record-setting day Brown delivered 5 hits in 6 at-bats, a day he will not soon forget.
J. Brown singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.
Currently Brown is batting .259 with 71 hits and 8 home runs. He has knocked in 39 runs and scored 35 times. | |
